Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the growing concern of obesity in India, calling it a serious issue that needs immediate attention. During his recent Mann Ki Baat address, he urged citizens to take proactive steps to combat this problem. To raise awareness, he nominated 10 prominent individuals to join the movement and spread the message further. Among those nominated are industrialist Anand Mahindra, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and several other notable personalities.
In his message, Modi stated:
"As mentioned in Mann Ki Baat, we must strengthen our fight against obesity. Alongside this, I am nominating these individuals to raise awareness about reducing the consumption of cooking oil in our daily diets. I urge each of them to nominate 10 more people to expand this movement."
The list of nominees includes actor Dhanush (also known as Nirahua), shooter Manu Bhaker, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, actors Mohanlal and Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy.
Obesity: A Growing Concern
During his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi emphasized the severity of the obesity crisis. He shared alarming statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), revealing that millions worldwide are struggling with excessive weight. "One in every eight people is affected by obesity, leading to various health complications. This is a matter of great concern. It is our collective responsibility to address this issue. We must also aim to reduce cooking oil consumption by 10% in our diets," he urged.
Modi's initiative aims to encourage healthier lifestyles and create a ripple effect by involving influential figures to inspire the masses. The campaign seeks to tackle obesity and promote better dietary habits across the nation.
