Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a rally in Hisar, Haryana, strongly criticised the misuse of Waqf land, stating it should have been used to support the poor, especially within the Muslim community. He said that instead of benefiting common people, Waqf properties have helped only a few land mafias, leaving backward Muslims with no real gains.
Modi questioned Congress's commitment to Muslim welfare, pointing out that the party has never appointed a Muslim as its president. He challenged them to give 50% of their election tickets to Muslims if they truly cared about the community. He also said young Muslim boys are forced into menial jobs due to the dishonest use of Waqf land.
Modi added that the new Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, was prompted by letters from Muslim widows and will stop the exploitation of the poor. The new law bars the Waqf Board from claiming tribal homes or lands, sparking political and legal controversy.
