Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mithun Chakraborty voted in Kolkata during the final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on June 1.
He waited 40 minutes in line at the Belgachia polling station emphasizing his duty as a citizen. Pictures and videos on social media show him in a black kurta, cap and sunglasses.
After voting Mithun told reporters that he will now focus on films rather than politics having fulfilled his political responsibilities.
In February 2024 the 73-year-old actor was hospitalized due to an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident but recovered quickly.
Mithun's political journey began in 2014 when he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
He resigned in December 2016 and joined the BJP in March 2021 under PM Modi.
On the professional front Mithun Chakraborty last appeared as a judge on the dance reality show Dance Bangla Dance.
He rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s for his performances in action, drama and dance films, earning the nickname Disco Dancer from his 1982 film.
