Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced on Wednesday that shopkeepers and street vendors will now be required to display their identification details. This decision came during a joint meeting with the Public Works Urban Development and Municipal Corporation aimed at ensuring hygienic food is sold to the public. Singh explained that many people had raised concerns about food hygiene leading to this new requirement similar to a policy implemented in Uttar Pradesh.
Every street vendor and shopkeeper will need to display their name and ID to enhance transparency and accountability. In a Facebook post Singh reiterated that this initiative would apply to all restaurants and fast food outlets, ensuring that owners' IDs are visible to avoid any inconvenience for customers.
This move follows recent directives from the Uttar Pradesh government which mandated that food centers display operator details and enforce hygiene measures, including requiring masks and gloves for staff and installing CCTV cameras in food establishments.
