Man Sold His Son To Meet Hospital Expenses

A man in Barwa Patti allegedly "sold" his three-year-old son to get his wife and newborn released from a private hospital after being unable to pay the fees. Harish Patel, a daily wage earner, sought care for his wife’s delivery, their sixth child.

When he couldn't afford the hospital charges the staff refused to let the mother and newborn leave. In desperation Patel agreed to a fraudulent adoption of his son for a small sum of money. Upon learning of the incident, police acted swiftly, rescuing the child and arresting five people involved including the adoptive couple and a fake doctor.

A police constable was also suspended for inaction. The child was safely returned to his family.
