Just days before the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has faced a significant setback. On Tuesday, four leaders from the party, including two councillors, resigned from AAP and joined the BJP. The two councillors are Rekha Rani, representing Bhajanpura, and Shilpa Kaur, representing Khayala.
The other two leaders include former AAP MLA Srideath Sharma and Chaudhary Vijendra, who served as a parliamentary representative for AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Srideath Sharma represented the Ghonda Assembly constituency in Delhi from 2015 to 2020. The leaders joined BJP in the presence of senior BJP members Harsh Malhotra, Manoj Tiwari, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
Polling for the 70-seat Delhi Assembly is scheduled to take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting and results set for February 8. The primary contenders in the elections are the ruling AAP, the BJP, and the Congress, setting the stage for a triangular contest. Notably, the Congress has failed to win a single seat in the last two Assembly elections in Delhi.
