In an effort to tackle the growing vehicular congestion in the state, the Maharashtra government has proposed a new regulation requiring car buyers to have dedicated parking spaces before purchasing a vehicle.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that buyers will soon need to submit proof of parking space while purchasing cars. This regulation aims to address the state's increasing traffic woes and promote better urban planning.
The minister clarified that this move is not intended to discourage middle-class families from owning cars but to ensure they make necessary arrangements for parking.
While the proposal is expected to attract criticism, especially from urban residents, the government believes it is a step toward sustainable traffic management and reducing the burden on public spaces caused by haphazard parking.
The rule is set to be implemented soon, with further details and timelines expected in the coming weeks.
