The nomination process for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections concludes today (Tuesday), creating anxiety among coalition candidates on both sides. Despite reaching the deadline, several constituencies are yet to have official candidate announcements, leaving many hopefuls in limbo.
The election will cover 288 seats across Maharashtra. In the ruling Mahayuti alliance of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), BJP, and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), candidates for 279 seats have been announced so far. The BJP will contest 146 seats, Shiv Sena 78, and Ajit Pawar's NCP 49, while smaller coalition parties are fielding candidates for the remaining six seats.
On the other side, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of Sharad Pawar's NCP, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, and Congress has announced 265 candidates, with 21 seats still pending. Congress will contest 102 seats, Uddhav’s Shiv Sena 84, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP 82. With the deadline fast approaching, both alliances are under pressure to finalize their remaining candidates.
