Kumbh Mela for Prisoners

Kumbh Mela for Prisoners

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which occurs only once every 144 years, has reached its final stage. In just a week, the Maha Kumbh Mela will conclude. While there is a debate about extending it, devotees are of the view that taking a dip before Maha Shivaratri is considered auspicious.

In this context, the Uttar Pradesh government is considering offering prisoners the opportunity to participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela. The state's prison department has made this decision, and the date for the event has been set. The government plans to allow 90,000 prisoners from 75 jails across Uttar Pradesh to take part in the holy bath.

However, the prisoners will not be taken to Prayagraj. Instead, a plan has been initiated to bring the holy waters from the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to the jails. The sacred water from the Sangam will be transported to the prisons in tankers.

Once the water reaches the jails, it will be mixed with the water in the tanks. The holy bath will be performed by the prisoners from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM on the 21st, after special prayers and rituals. This event will take place simultaneously in all the jails in Uttar Pradesh.

There are four types of Kumbh Melas:

  1. Kumbh Mela – Held once every 4 years.
  2. Ardh Kumbh Mela – Held once every 6 years.
  3. Poorna Kumbh Mela – Held once every 12 years.
  4. Maha Kumbh Mela – Held once every 144 years. This is the same Mela that is currently happening.

After the completion of 12 Poorna Kumbh Melas, the next Kumbh Mela is called the Maha Kumbh Mela. The current event is a Maha Kumbh Mela.
