Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during a debate in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting disparities in their educational backgrounds while questioning her actions.
“I have to tell them I also know how to read. I studied in a municipality school; she studied at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her English and Hindi may be good, but her deeds are not,” said Kharge.
His remarks came during a discussion on the Constitution, where he sought to emphasize that eloquence and education should not overshadow ethical governance. Kharge's comment was seen as a broader critique of the BJP government’s policies, signaling a tense exchange between the ruling and opposition parties.
Sitharaman, known for her academic and professional credentials, has often been a target for opposition leaders criticizing the BJP's track record. Kharge’s statement highlighted his frustration with what he perceives as a gap between rhetoric and governance under BJP leadership.
