Janmashtami: Doordarshan's Lord Krishna Opens Up

On Janmashtami 2024, Nitish Bharadwaj who is famous for portraying Lord Krishna in BR Chopra's 'Mahabharat' said about his iconic role and his present views on current social issues. Nitish recalled that Ravi Chopra and writer Rahi Masoom Raza saw qualities of Krishna in him leading to his selection after a screen test.

He also said about his bonding with co star Roopa Ganguly on set over discussions about Krishna and Draupadi forming a strong friendship that continues today. Nitish emphasized that playing Krishna required a deep understanding of his teachings and values not just donning a costume.

Responding on recent crimes against women, Nitish expressed his disgust at male violence calling for stricter punishments and compulsory military training to instill discipline. He urged youth to truly understand Krishna’s teachings from the Bhagavad Gita which advocates for moral strength, reform and the balance of joy and inner peace.
