ISRO has achieved another milestone with the successful launch of its 100th mission. The GSLV-F15 rocket was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota, carrying the NVS-02 satellite into space.
The NVS-02 satellite is part of India’s NAVIC series, designed to provide accurate positioning, velocity, and timing services. It extends its navigation support up to 1,500 km beyond the Indian subcontinent. The 50.9-meter-long GSLV-F12 rocket had previously launched the NVS-01 satellite into orbit on May 29, 2024.
Today’s satellite, weighing 2,250 kg, was developed at the U.R. Satellite Centre and includes additional payloads for L1 and L5 navigation. This satellite’s navigation capabilities will serve aviation, maritime, and terrestrial users. It can support aircraft operations, mobile-based location services, satellite orbit determination, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, as per ISRO.
