In 2024, Googling became an integral part of daily life in India, with people searching for diverse topics across various categories. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the most searched topics in India this year, as revealed by Google:
The Indian Premier League (IPL) dominated searches, followed by T20 Cricket, BJP, the 2024 Election Results, and the Olympics. Interestingly, late industrialist Ratan Tata ranked seventh on the overall search list.
In the movies category, Stree-2 topped the list, followed by Kalki and 12th Fail. Other notable mentions in the top 10 include Salaar, Goat, and Hanuman.
For TV shows, Heeramandi ranked first, followed by Mirzapur and The Last of Us. The Bigg Boss franchise also made it to the list, with seasons 17 and 18 garnering significant interest.
Among celebrities, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was the most searched, followed by Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, Hardik Pandya, and Pawan Kalyan. The list also featured names like Poonam Pandey and Radhika Merchant.
Google’s “near me” feature remained popular, with searches like Aakhi near me, Onam Sadhya near me, Ram Mandir near me, and sports bar near me trending.
In sports, IPL, T20, the Olympics, and Pro Kabaddi League were the most searched topics.
Travel-related searches centered on destinations like Azerbaijan, Bali, Manali, Kazakhstan, and Jaipur. Kashmir, Ayodhya, and South Goa also made it to the list.
On the culinary front, Indians searched the most for Pornstar Martini, a cocktail made with vodka and passion fruit. The recipe for making mango pickle (avakaya) was the second most popular search, while Ugadi Pachadi, a festive dish, ranked fourth.
Interestingly, terms like Chandrayaan, ChatGPT, Kiara Advani, and Vietnam, which trended heavily last year, didn’t feature this time. However, recurring favorites like Ugadi Pachadi, Pawan Kalyan, Prabhas, Goa, and mango pickle remained popular.
This year’s trends reflect India’s evolving interests, blending traditional searches with contemporary ones like cocktails and global destinations.
