External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in New Delhi for the 2nd meeting of the Political, Security, Social and Cultural Committee of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council.
This council, established in 2019 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Saudi Arabia, aims to strengthen strategic ties. Their discussions reviewed progress in agriculture, energy, technology, and infrastructure. India and Saudi Arabia share historically friendly relations dating back to 1947, reinforced by key visits: King Abdullah’s landmark 2006 visit resulted in the 'Delhi Declaration,’ and the 2010 'Riyadh Declaration' elevated the relationship to a strategic partnership.
Subsequent visits by PM Modi and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman have further deepened collaboration, with Saudi Arabia pledging $100 billion in investments in India across various sectors, including tourism, housing, and solar energy initiatives.
