India Needs To Shift To Products, Not Service

India must transition from a service-based to a product-based industry model, emphasized Dr. V. K. Saraswat, Member (Science & Technology), NITI Aayog. Speaking at a national workshop in GIFT City, Gujarat, he stressed the importance of DeepTech startups and highlighted government initiatives to promote research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The workshop facilitated discussions among government officials, industry experts, academic leaders, and startup founders.

The event focused on fostering synergy across sectors, covering critical topics such as R&D investments, state innovation policies, global trends, and grassroots entrepreneurship. Saraswat underscored the need for translational research that drives impactful innovation and aligns with global advancements. Collaboration between government, academia, and industry was highlighted as a key factor in shaping India's innovation landscape.

Mona Khandhar, IAS, reiterated Gujarat’s commitment to strengthening its startup ecosystem through policies like the Gujarat Semiconductor and Electronics Policies. Dr. Sacha Wunsch-Vincent from WIPO provided insights on India’s intellectual property growth, noting an increase in patent filings and the expansion of S&T clusters in the coming years.
