Modi 3.0 is going to be quite a challenging term for the BJP government as the INDIA alliance put up an impressive performance in the recent elections and have sizable numbers.
In a boost to their presence in Parliament, former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has categorically stated that he would not support the BJP on any issue and that his support will be to the Opposition.
This is quite a significant statement from Naveen Patnaik because his Party (BJD) has always supported the BJP in Parliament in getting key bills passed.
Now, Naveen is saying that he is not even considering issue-based support like in the past, but pledged his support to the Opposition, unconditionally.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, BJP decimated Naveen Patnaik winning 20 of the 21 seats in that State with an ally winning the other seat.
In the Assembly polls, BJP won 78 seats out of 147 whereas the BJD won only 51, bringing to an end, the 24-year-reign of Naveen Patnaik.
The BJD currently has nine members in Rajya Sabha and high on the list of their priorities now is the demand for a ‘special status’ for Odisha.
Already, the NDA member States like Andhra Pradesh and Bihar are expected to put pressure on the Modi government for ‘special status’ for their respective States.
If Naveen Patnaik also joins the chorus from the Opposition ranks, Modi 3.0 will be one hell of a ‘bumpy ride’.
