The BJP criticized Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for her remark against NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma.
Moitra commented on a video showing Sharma at a Hathras stampede site, where she appeared insensitive as someone held an umbrella for her.
Moitra's comment, “She is too busy holding up her boss’s pajamas,” was deemed “indecent and shameful” by BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla who called for Moitra’s expulsion and labeled her comment the “true face” of the TMC and the Opposition.
Poonawalla also criticized Congress and AAP leaders for their silence on the issue and accused them of hypocrisy.
NCW chief Rekha Sharma wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora about Moitra’s remarks.
The NCW condemned Moitra's comments on Twitter, indicating plans to file an FIR and calling the remarks a violation of a woman’s right to dignity, attracting Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023.
The NCW urged strict action against Moitra for her defamatory remarks.
