Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu voluntarily gave up subsidies on his five electricity connections, urging affluent citizens to do the same to support state development.
He suggested using online portals, helpline numbers, or local electricity offices to relinquish subsidies. Sukhu announced that all Cabinet members and Congress MLAs in the state have also agreed to forgo their subsidies.
He highlighted that the government spends Rs 2,200 crore annually on electricity subsidies and Rs 200 crore monthly on salaries and pensions of electricity board employees. Sukhu emphasized that subsidies should be reserved for the needy, while well-off individuals should contribute to creating a fairer society.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant through systemic reforms and economic revival efforts. He urged collective citizen support for these initiatives to strengthen the state's economy and provide better opportunities for the underprivileged.
