Polling for the Delhi Assembly elections has commenced under tight security. The Election Commission has announced that voting will continue until 6 PM on Wednesday. A total of 13,776 polling stations have been set up across 70 constituencies. Over 1.56 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the Delhi elections. A fierce battle is underway between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Umesh Gupta has been recorded as the first male voter, while Prerana was the first female voter in these elections. They cast their votes at the polling center in Daryaganj, Karol Bagh constituency.
A total of 699 candidates are contesting in 70 constituencies in the Delhi Assembly elections. Through home voting, 6,980 out of 7,553 eligible voters have already cast their votes. The Election Commission has deployed 19,000 home guards, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 220 companies of paramilitary forces to ensure smooth election proceedings.
Additionally, drone surveillance has been increased to monitor the situation. The BJP is aiming to reclaim power in Delhi after 25 years, while AAP leaders are hoping for a hat-trick victory. AAP has been in power for two consecutive terms, but it is noteworthy that after their first electoral win, Arvind Kejriwal dissolved the government within just 49 days and called for fresh elections. Since then, AAP has continued to govern Delhi. The election results will be announced on February 8.
