Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has firmly rejected allegations made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming his UK-born wife, Elizabeth, has "Pakistan links." Gogoi called it a "slanderous campaign" aimed at deflecting attention from the BJP's failures. He expressed confidence in the people of Assam, stating they would see through the baseless accusations and vote for a Congress-led government in upcoming elections.
The controversy began when Sarma questioned a meeting Gogoi held with the Pakistan High Commissioner in 2015 and raised concerns about his wife’s connections. Sarma also claimed Elizabeth was linked to Ali Seikh, a person reportedly associated with the Pakistan government.
The Assam government has directed the DGP to investigate these claims. However, Gogoi dismissed the allegations as part of a deliberate attempt by the BJP to divert attention from their own shortcomings.
