Any general election in India is akin to the Kurukshetra War, where several kingdoms took sides in waging war.
Now, several parties have taken sides with both the BJP and Congress.
The Election Commission's announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls' culmination has sparked widespread anticipation across India.
Both BJP and the Congress have solidified their alliances.
It is to be noted that in the 2019 elections both parties strategically refrained from contesting over 100 seats each opting instead to rely heavily on their allies in these constituencies.
In spite of facing initial setbacks such as the departure of key parties like the Shiv Sena, the JDU, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the AIADMK the BJP has managed to regain ground.
It has forged new alliances with parties like the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and welcomed back the JDU and the TDP.
Additionally, the faction of the Shiv Sena recognized by the Election Commission as the legitimate party is now part of the NDA.
Similarly the Congress initially faced challenges including the defection of leaders like Nitish Kumar and Jayant Chaudhary to the NDA and internal conflicts within the NCP and Shiv Sena and delays in finalizing seat sharing agreements with regional leaders like Mamata Banerjee.
But the Congress has made significant strides by securing strategic alliances with parties like the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, garnering support from Uddhav Thackeray's faction of the Shiv Sena, and forming coalitions with the AAP in multiple states excluding Punjab.
The alliances formed by both parties will play a crucial role in determining their electoral fortunes.
However the seamless transfer of votes within these alliances remains a critical factor that could ultimately sway the election results.
