Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's son, Shrikant Shinde, is facing criticism for allegedly violating restrictions at the Mahakali Temple in Ujjain. Despite a ban on entry into the sanctum sanctorum, Shrikant and his wife were reportedly allowed inside during their visit on Thursday evening, sparking outrage among opposition parties.
Shrikant Shinde, a Member of Parliament from Kalyan constituency in Thane district, visited the temple with his wife and performed rituals inside the sanctum, as confirmed by temple authorities. A video of the incident has gone viral, leading to controversy since the entry to the sanctum has been prohibited for nearly a year.
Opposition parties, including Congress, have condemned the preferential treatment, stating that while ordinary devotees wait in long queues for a glimpse of the deity, VIPs are being granted special access in violation of rules.
Ujjain District Collector and Temple Committee Chairman Neeraj Kumar Singh denied any permission was granted for such an entry and stated that an inquiry has been ordered to take appropriate action against those responsible.
