After initial disagreements over live streaming the meeting, the West Bengal government sent a fifth and final invitation to the protesting junior doctors for talks. The doctors accepted the proposal. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant emailed the doctors, requesting them to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat residence on Monday.
Pant reminded them of the prior discussion reiterating that the meeting would not be live-streamed due to the ongoing Supreme Court case, but minutes would be recorded and signed by both parties. The same delegation that met Banerjee earlier was invited for the talks. The doctors have been protesting since the rape murder of a colleague on August 9.
Banerjee had previously visited the protest site but a meeting with the doctors did not proceed as planned due to disagreements. She appealed to the doctors not to insult her and promised a signed copy of the meeting's minutes.
