It’s not just in the past, even now, there are constant rumors that DK Shivakumar is going to join the BJP. Every day, the media asks him about it, and the speculation never seems to stop!
Now, a similar talk is circulating about another Congress leader in South India, Shashi Tharoor. The conversation gained momentum after Shashi Tharoor made some comments about the leadership vacuum within the Congress in Kerala. Recently, he mentioned that there is a lack of leadership in Congress in Kerala and that there is a vacuum in the party. He said that if the central leadership does not take action soon, there is a risk that Congress in Kerala may remain relegated to the opposition for a third consecutive time. He added that if no action is taken, he might explore alternative paths, such as writing books or giving speeches.
However, there is also speculation that Tharoor's "alternative paths" are not about books or speeches, but rather about the BJP trying to bring him into their fold. The BJP has already made various attempts to strengthen its presence in Kerala. They gave Rajya Sabha membership to actor Suresh Gopi, who had previously failed in elections. He later won in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is now trying to gain momentum ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, but the situation is not looking very promising. In this context, there is talk that BJP may try to field Tharoor as their Chief Minister candidate for Kerala.
However, Tharoor is currently making it clear that he is aiming for the Chief Minister position as a Congress candidate. He has already won four times consecutively as an MP from Thiruvananthapuram, and now he seems to be eyeing the CM position. Though he talked about alternative paths recently, he has also stated that he is still a part of the Congress and continues to attend party meetings.
If Tharoor does leave Congress, it could cause some damage to the party. Given his seniority, the Congress may consider him as their CM candidate for Kerala, or the BJP may try to bring him on as their CM candidate. In several states, Congress has already lost its CM candidates, leading to confusion within the party. Whether Rahul Gandhi learns from these experiences and corrects the course, or if the party continues to face disarray, we may get clarity in the coming months.
