Amid speculation over a leadership shift in Karnataka, Congress MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga claimed on Sunday that Deputy CM DK Shivakumar would assume the Chief Minister’s role by December. He confidently stated that Shivakumar would lead for the next 7.5 years, ensuring Congress' success in upcoming elections.
Without confirming a formal power-sharing deal, Shivaganga highlighted Shivakumar’s contributions, crediting him for the party’s electoral gains. He emphasized that Shivakumar’s dedication, sacrifices, and leadership would not go unnoticed by the high command.
The possibility of a “rotational chief minister” arrangement has fueled political discussions. While reports suggested Shivakumar was set to take over after 2.5 years, Congress has not officially confirmed this. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara previously denied such an agreement. Despite the uncertainty, Shivakumar remains a strong contender for the top post.
