Sajid Rashidi, President of the All India Imam Association, voted for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election to challenge the belief that Muslims always vote against the party. This was his first time supporting the BJP, highlighting a shift in Muslim voting behavior. Rashidi hoped for the BJP’s victory in Delhi.
BJP leader Amit Malviya suggested this could indicate growing Muslim support for the party, which should concern secular parties. The election saw 60.4% voter turnout, with 1.56 crore eligible voters, including over 2 lakh first-time voters.
A total of 699 candidates contested for 70 seats in Delhi’s Assembly. Voting occurred at 13,766 stations from 7 am to 6 pm. Results will be announced on February 8. Rashidi’s decision adds a new dimension to the political landscape, hinting at a possible shift in voter preferences.
