In the national capital, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, the first session of the Delhi Assembly was held on Monday. However, the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders staged massive protests on the very first day of the session. AAP leaders accused the BJP government of removing photos of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar from the Chief Minister's office.
AAP leader Atishi alleged that this action proves once again that the BJP is anti-Dalit. She stated that during the AAP government's tenure, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ensured that photos of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar were displayed in every government office. She expressed anger over the BJP government removing these photos immediately after coming to power and led the protest.
Before the Assembly session began, AAP leaders protested outside the Assembly building. They accused the BJP government of breaking its promise to depositRs 2,500 into every woman's account under the "Mahila Samman Yojana" in its first cabinet meeting. The AAP MLAs demanded that the first installment of the scheme be deposited into the accounts of every woman in Delhi by March. They also complained that the BJP government had not given them time to meet the Chief Minister in the last two days.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, who was elected as an independent candidate with BJP's support, expressed displeasure over the protests by the opposition. He stated that the opposition leaders were not allowing the House to function smoothly and were deliberately trying to disrupt the proceedings. He urged the AAP leaders not to politicize the Assembly sessions. Amid the chaos, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for 15 minutes.
