Court Closes Sexual Harassment Cases Against Nana Patekar

A metropolitan magistrate’s court in Andheri has closed two criminal cases of sexual harassment filed by actor Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar and three others during the Me Too movement. The cases, related to alleged incidents from 2008 and 2010, were registered in 2018 but were later found to be unsubstantiated by police investigations.

The Oshiwara police had submitted closure reports, stating that the complaints lacked evidence. Metropolitan Magistrate NV Bansal dismissed the first case, citing that the FIR was filed beyond the three-year limitation period under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

In the second case, where allegations were made against Abdul Sami Siddhiqui, the court ruled there was no mens rea or guilty intent. With no grounds to proceed, both cases were officially disposed of, bringing an end to the legal proceedings against Patekar and the others.
