Comments made by former Karnataka Congress MLA Syed Azeem Peer Khadri about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have stirred controversy.
During a meeting organized by the Madiga community on Tuesday, November 13, in the context of the Shiggaon by-election, Khadri remarked that in Ambedkar’s time, he had almost converted to Islam but ultimately chose Buddhism instead.
Khadri stated, “If Ambedkar had converted to Islam, today many Dalits, including Home Minister Parameshwara, would be Muslims.” The BJP has sharply criticized Khadri’s statements, calling them indicative of both his and his party’s ignorance.
