The Bengal Congress has alleged that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is aiding the BJP by creating divisions within the INDIA opposition alliance. Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar criticized Banerjee’s leadership ambitions, claiming her actions have often supported BJP’s interests, undermining opposition unity during critical moments.
Sarkar emphasized that Congress, under Rahul Gandhi, has consistently opposed BJP’s ideology across all levels, unlike Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), which he accused of selective opposition. Sarkar also questioned TMC’s silence on national issues and called for inclusive, collective decisions within the alliance.
TMC leaders, including Kunal Ghosh, retaliated, accusing Congress of aiding BJP in Bengal and asserting that coalition politics prioritizes leadership quality over numbers. The tussle escalated after Banerjee expressed readiness to lead the INDIA bloc, bolstered by support from allies like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sharad Pawar.
Amid this power struggle, BJP mocked the opposition's internal conflicts, terming it a race for power without a unified mission.
