The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified that the guidelines issued by NPCI on January 28 regarding FASTag do not apply to toll plazas on national highways. The new regulations that came into effect recently at toll plazas had caused confusion among vehicle owners. As a result, NHAI provided a clarification.
NPCI's recent guidelines stated that if a FASTag is inactive for more than 60 minutes before reaching a toll plaza reader or remains inactive for up to 10 minutes after scanning, the transaction would be declined. In such cases, vehicle owners would have to pay double the toll fee.
However, NHAI explained that the purpose of the guidelines issued by NPCI was to resolve disputes between the bank that issued the FASTag and the bank that receives the toll payment once the vehicle passes through the toll plaza.
