A complaint was filed in Pune against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi under the Black Magic Act 2013 and Sections 415 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code for alleged cheating.
Aarti Sachin Kondre lodged the complaint, claiming Gandhi deceived the public in his speeches in April and May by promising money in their bank accounts.
She quoted Gandhi saying, "On July 1 morning all poor Indians check your bank account and by magic you all will get Rs.8,500 Similarly, in August, September, October, November, December you will get Rs.8,500 each khatakhat khatakhat khatakhat."
Kondre saw the video on TV and social media which led women in her area to believe Gandhi would send money through black magic building trust in the Congress party.
When they realized no money was coming, they felt deceived and urged Kondre to act leading to her filing the case.
Kondre's lawyer Satya Muley stated that Gandhi's promises exploit blind faith and cheat underprivileged citizens violating the Prevention of Black Magic Act and Sections 415 and 420 of the IPC. Such actions undermine Indian democracy, Muley argued.
