Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath criticized the glorification of invaders, calling it an act of treason. Speaking in Bahraich, he praised Maharaj Suheldev’s bravery, which, he claimed, prevented foreign invasions for 150 years. Yogi emphasized that independent India cannot tolerate those who insult national heroes and honor invaders who attacked India’s culture and faith.
His remarks came after violent communal clashes in Nagpur on March 17, where stone-pelting and arson left 30 police and fire personnel injured. The violence erupted amid demands by VHP and Bajrang Dal to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khuldabad. Police used tear gas to disperse the mobs.
Meanwhile, authorities denied permission for the Neja Mela in Sambhal, held in memory of Syed Salar Masud Ghazi, citing public objections. Officials stated that organizing an event for a historical plunderer would be deemed anti-national, reinforcing the government’s stance against honoring invaders.
