CM Stalin Urges Newlywed Couples to Have More Children

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called upon newly married couples to consider having more children, suggesting that in the current circumstances, it is time to prioritize family growth over wealth. He made these remarks during a mass wedding event organized by the state's Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, where 31 couples were married in his presence.

Stalin highlighted that in earlier times, newlyweds were blessed by elders to receive 16 types of wealth, and he interpreted this as a metaphor for prosperity rather than just a literal number of children. He mentioned that the 16 types of wealth include aspects such as cows, homes, spouses, children, education, curiosity, knowledge, discipline, land, water, longevity, vehicles, gold, property, crops, and accolades.

He noted that in modern times, blessings for couples are less about acquiring multiple forms of wealth and more focused on having a sufficient number of children to lead a happy life. He also warned of potential reductions in parliamentary constituencies, suggesting that societal trends may lead to a need for larger families. Stalin urged couples not to overlook the importance of family growth.

This call echoes recent comments by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who expressed concern about population balance and the impact of an aging population, urging families to have more children. Naidu revealed plans for a law that would allow only individuals with two or more children to contest local body elections.
