CM Offers 'Women's Day' Gift to Women of Delhi

Delhi's newly appointed Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has brought good news for the city's women. As part of her election promise, she announced that a sum of Rs 2500 would be credited to women's bank accounts by March 8 (International Women's Day). She emphasized that she would remain close to the people and serve them as their Chief Minister. Additionally, she made it clear that she would not stay in the 'Sheesh Mahal' (Glass Palace) built by Arvind Kejriwal.

Rekha Gupta took the oath as Chief Minister at 12:05 AM on Thursday, with significant preparations made for the event, which was held at the famous Ramleela Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, along with other central ministers and several state Chief Ministers, were present at the ceremony. Over 200 people, including senior actors, industrialists, diplomats, BJP allies, MPs, and MLAs, were also in attendance.

Rekha Gupta, a 50-year-old political veteran, has had a long career as a student leader and is currently serving as the Delhi BJP's General Secretary. Before this role, she was the National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha. In the recent assembly elections, she won the Shalimar Bagh (North-West) constituency with a margin of 68,200 votes.

Professionally a lawyer, she served as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union from 1996 to 1997. She later entered municipal politics, winning the Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and again in 2012, and has also served as the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
