The Central Bureau of Investigation defended the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleging he played a key role in the Delhi excise policy's formation and implementation which is under investigation for corruption.
The CBI claims Kejriwal's arrest was necessary due to his non cooperation and substantial evidence of his involvement. The Supreme Court postponed his bail plea hearing to September 5 allowing the CBI more time to submit additional affidavits. Kejriwal's lawyers accuse the CBI of delaying tactics while the agency denies any intentional delay.
The CBI's affidavit alleges Kejriwal's involvement in a conspiracy involving financial misconduct and misuse of office with accusations of attempting to manipulate the court proceedings for political gain.
The CBI emphasized that Kejriwal's arrest was lawful and met all legal requirements highlighting his central role in the alleged corruption.
