Way back, before the partition of Andhra Pradesh, when the seperate Telangana movement was at peaks, there was a demand for Hyderabad to be made a Union Territory from a section of people.
This demand arose from the Andhra Pradesh settlers in Hyderabad who were reluctant to be part of the newly formed Telangana state. They wished for Hyderabad to either remain the capital of the combined Andhra Pradesh or, if partition was inevitable, become a Union Territory.
Even after the partition, there were indications that the central government was considering establishing a second capital in southern India, with Hyderabad being a potential choice. Hyderabad already hosts the summer residence of the President of India.
However, the Chief Minister of Telangana, who governed the state effectively for ten years, silenced the topic of making the city a Union Territory.
Now, with the decline of KCR's TRS government, sources in Delhi suggest that the BJP government is contemplating making Hyderabad a Union Territory as part of a strategy to disrupt the political system in Telangana, currently governed by the Congress. Rumor has it that the BJP government may raise this issue after the elections.
Further details are yet to emerge, but for now, this topic has resurfaced and is circulating as gossip in the inner circles of Delhi.
