BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has strongly criticized Omar Abdullah Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) for his remarks on the execution of Afzal Guru. Abdullah a former Chief Minister recently questioned the purpose of Guru’s execution for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack suggesting it was ineffective.
Prasad condemned Abdullah’s comments asserting that Guru was lawfully executed after the Supreme Court reviewed his case and found him involved in terrorist activities. He accused Abdullah of making these statements for electoral gain and labeled them as "irresponsible and anti-national" implying Abdullah’s comments show leniency towards terrorists.
Abdullah defended his stance by stating that if the Jammu and Kashmir government had been involved, it would have opposed Guru’s execution. He expressed his belief that the execution served no useful purpose.
With assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir set for September 18, 25, and October 1, Prasad criticized Abdullah’s remarks as an attempt to weaken India for political advantage.
