BJP MLA Faces Sexual Assault Case Following Gujarat High Court Orders

A sexual assault case has been filed against BJP MLA and former minister Gajendra Singh Parmar in Gujarat. The police registered the case after receiving directions from the Gujarat High Court. A Dalit woman accused Parmar of summoning her to the MLA quarters in Gandhinagar on July 30, 2020, under the pretext of marriage, and then subjecting her to sexual assault.

The victim further alleged that Parmar stopped responding to her calls and threatened her with kidnapping and harm if she disclosed their relationship, while also using casteist slurs. When the local police ignored her complaint, she approached the High Court in 2021.

The court expressed anger at the police for their inaction and ordered them to register a rape case against Parmar. The Gandhinagar Sector-21 police have since filed charges under rape and POCSO laws, in addition to a previously filed SC/ST Atrocity case. Parmar is also implicated in a separate case in Rajasthan involving the abduction of a minor girl, where his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Gujarat High Court in April 2023.
