BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal has been booked for making offensive comments about Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who was recently arrested for gold smuggling. The case was filed at Bengaluru’s High Grounds police station following a complaint by Akula Anuradha, alleging that Yatnal’s remarks insulted Rao’s modesty under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Ranya Rao, stepdaughter of senior Karnataka IPS officer DGP K Ramachandra Rao, was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport with 14.2 kg of smuggled gold worth Rs 12.56 crore. A raid on her home led to further seizures of gold and cash. Authorities suspect she is part of a larger smuggling network.
Yatnal’s controversial comments, including a crude reference to her body, have sparked outrage. He claimed to have details about her alleged network and promised revelations. His remarks have been widely condemned, with calls for strict action against him.
