Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi now feels he has achieved “success” and is changing his political strategies accordingly.
In a recent podcast she mentioned that Rahul Gandhi’s actions, such as focusing on caste issues and his choice of attire in Parliament are deliberate moves aimed at influencing the youth and specific voter groups.
Irani warned against dismissing his tactics as immature suggesting they reflect a different approach to politics. She also criticized past Congress strategies like Rahul's temple visits during campaigns calling them failed attempts at “soft Hindutva” that did not resonate with voters and were seen as insincere.
According to Irani, Gandhi shifted focus to caste politics after these earlier tactics proved ineffective. Irani and Gandhi have a long standing political rivalry particularly highlighted by her victory over him in Amethi in 2019 after losing in 2014. Despite their clashes Gandhi has called for respectful political discourse.
