Despite a spirited campaign by the BJP in Tamil Nadu led by K Annamalai, the saffron party did not manage to win a single seat of the 19 out of 39 Lok Sabha constituencies it contested in directly and neither did its allies including the PMK and ex-AIADMK leaders O Pannerselvam and Dhinakaran.
However, the BJP’s efforts have not entirely been in vain. It garnered a vote share of 10.69 percent with many of its candidates including Annamalai ending up in second position.
This is the highest vote percentage ever for the BJP in Tamil Nadu. In 2019, BJP got 3.66% vote share. This is more than 200 percent improvement for the BJP alone compared to 2019 and is no mean feat as it signifies a growing acceptance among the populace.
The Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are due in 2026 and this growing acceptance can instill fresh energy in the Party which obviously might have been disappointed at drawing a blank after having targeted a vote share of 20 to 25 percent.
