Bihar Favored, Andhra Ignored: Jairam Ramesh

Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh criticized the Union Budget 2025, claiming Bihar received a “bonanza ” while Andhra Pradesh was “cruelly ignored.” He suggested Bihar’s benefits were politically motivated due to upcoming elections. Bihar’s sops include makhana processing units, greenfield airports, a Mithilanchal canal project, and expanded capacity at Patna ’s IIT.

Ramesh questioned why Andhra Pradesh, also an NDA ally, was overlooked despite its importance. Congress leader Manish Tewari echoed this sentiment, implying the budget focused disproportionately on Bihar.

Ramesh also highlighted broader economic concerns, citing stagnant wages, weak mass consumption, sluggish private investment, and a complex GST system. He argued the budget failed to address these issues, offering relief only to income taxpayers.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced tax reforms, exempting incomes up to Rs 12 lakh, aiming to ease the middle-class burden and boost consumption. However, opposition leaders remain skeptical about its real impact.
