Big Alert: First Case of China Virus in India

The HMPV virus, rapidly spreading in China, has reportedly reached India. An 8-month-old baby in Bengaluru developed symptoms and was taken to a private hospital by the parents. Lab tests confirmed that the baby tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV).

The Karnataka government has mentioned that further confirmation is required from their own lab. Notably, the baby has not traveled abroad.

People had wondered why a virus that devastated China would make its way to India. Five years ago, the world was shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic, and now, with cases of HMPV rising in China, people speculated that it might reach India soon. However, an 8-month-old baby in Bengaluru was admitted to the hospital with similar symptoms.

As a precaution, people are advised to wear masks, wash hands frequently, and avoid handshakes when going out.
