Bengal Woman’s Death Sparks Political Row

The death of 27-year-old Suchandra Chattopadhyay in Bengal's Paschim Bardhaman district has ignited a political clash between the BJP and Trinamool Congress. BJP leader Sukunta Majumdar accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to protect women, while Trinamool’s Kunal Ghosh dismissed allegations of harassment, calling it a traffic accident caused by overtaking.

Majumdar cited frequent crimes against women in Bengal, accusing the government of shielding criminals. Ghosh, however, rejected claims of sexual harassment, asserting that police found no evidence of eve-teasing and accused the BJP of spreading false stories. He urged people to follow traffic rules, noting that law enforcement cannot monitor every highway inch.

Police stated that Chattopadhyay’s car overturned while allegedly racing another vehicle. Though her family claims harassment by men in a second car, police found CCTV footage suggesting her vehicle was chasing the other. Investigations continue as her family demands justice.
