Bangladesh on Thursday lodged a protest with India’s temporary High Commissioner over remarks made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in exile. The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly objected to Hasina’s statements, calling them "false and fabricated."
During a recent speech to her supporters, Hasina made remarks that the Bangladeshi government deemed a “hostile act” against the nation. Dhaka has urged the Indian government in New Delhi to take appropriate action, stating that such statements, which hurt the sentiments of the Bangladeshi people, are not conducive to healthy bilateral relations.
Following Hasina’s speech on Wednesday night, protests erupted across Bangladesh. In her address, the 77-year-old leader called for resistance against the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. Hasina was ousted from power on August 5 last year following massive student-led protests and later took refuge in India.
After her speech, protesters in Dhaka vandalized and set fire to the residence of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh. Additionally, Awami League leaders were targeted in violent incidents across various parts of the country.
