Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the Bangladesh-origin minority community overwhelmingly voted for Congress in the recent Lok Sabha election, ignoring the developmental work done by the BJP-led governments.
Speaking at a felicitation event for BJP and allied winners, Sarma stated the ruling alliance received 47% of the votes, while Congress and its allies got 39%.
The BJP-AGP-UPPL coalition won 11 of Assam's 14 Lok Sabha seats, with Congress securing the remaining three.
Sarma alleged that 50% of Congress's votes were concentrated in minority dominated areas, where BJP received only 3%.
He asserted that this shows only one community indulges in communalism in Assam.
Despite benefiting from government initiatives the minority community predominantly voted for Congress as Sarma claimed.
Sarma emphasized that the BJP aims for nation building and development for all regardless of election results.
He set a target of 50% votes for the 2026 state polls.
