K. Annamalai has announced that he will withdraw from the race for the position of BJP Tamil Nadu President. He clarified that he is distancing himself from the contest and expressed his wishes for a bright future for the party. Annamalai has played a key role in energizing the saffron party in Tamil Nadu. However, he has now decided to step down from the race for the leadership position.
The decision to withdraw from the race is believed to be influenced by the growing alliance between the BJP and AIADMK. It is reported that AIADMK raised concerns in the discussions, stating that it would be difficult for Annamalai to continue as the president if he remained in the race.
Annamalai’s announcement has come as a significant statement just ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year. He mentioned that BJP is a party with good people, and he wants it to remain strong and grow, with good-hearted, dedicated individuals. He emphasized that he has always wished for the party to thrive and that he is not part of any political speculation.
Speaking in Coimbatore on Friday, Annamalai said, "Leaders in BJP do not compete for leadership positions. We will collectively elect the party president. I am not in the race for this position." He also added, "I wish for the party to have a bright future. Many have sacrificed for the growth of this party. I will always offer my best wishes to the party. I am not in the race for the next state president. I will not respond to any political speculation." He further clarified that the BJP is not like other parties, where 50 nominations are filed for the president’s post.
