The All India Ulema Board recently presented a list of 17 demands to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra, suggesting these measures in exchange for Muslim community support in upcoming elections. Some of the prominent demands include:
Ban on RSS: The board has called for a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), citing concerns over its activities.
Muslim Youth Recruitment Priority: They seek prioritization of Muslim youth in police recruitment, aiming for more representation within the force.
Opposition to the Centre's Waqf Bill: The board expressed strong opposition to the proposed Waqf bill by the central government, aiming to protect Waqf properties.
10% Reservation for Muslims: A demand for a 10% reservation for Muslims in education and employment has been raised to address socio-economic disparities.
Funds for Maharashtra Waqf Board: The board requested a significant contribution of Rs 1,000 crore for the Maharashtra Waqf Board to manage and preserve Waqf properties effectively.
Reprieve for 1992 Blast Accused: They also asked for leniency for those accused in the 1992 terror blast cases, arguing that many of the accused have served long sentences and are elderly.
These demands reflect ongoing discussions within Maharashtra regarding minority rights and political representation, especially as political parties engage in campaigning. The MVA has not yet publicly responded to the list.
