The Election Commission of India announced the assembly election schedule for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir will vote in three phases: September 18, 25 and October 1 with results declared on October 4. Haryana's election will occur on October 1 for 90 seats, with results also on October 4, coinciding with Jammu and Kashmir's final phase.
This will be the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, following the Supreme Court's directive to complete the election by September 30, 2024.
Jammu and Kashmir has 90 constituencies, with 87.09 lakh voters. The election will cover regions like Pulwama, Anantnag, Srinagar and Jammu. The union territory has been under President's rule since the PDP-BJP coalition government collapsed in 2018. The last assembly election there was in 2014.
